February 2008 i had a 3' high Skeeters Broom planted.
The tree did well all last year and the leaves came back on in this spring, only now they seem as if their dying off because they look as if their shrivelling up?.
A few of the branches seem to have dried up so i've removed them, but i don't want to take it out unless it's necessary?. I can't see any fungus or bugs on them of any form either?
I'm from the UK and we had a bad winter this year, but it's warm here now, so i don't know if that's got something to do with it?
:sniffle:
OH BOTHER!. I THINK I NEED MOVED TO A DIFFERENT FORUM?

Your Skeeters Broom is a Japanese Maple, supposedly hardy to -28 degrees. I am therefore doubting that the winter is what stressed the tree.
Often, root damage from transportation and replanting can wait a full year to show up. As well, watch out for overwatering Japanese Maples. From the sound of things, it sounds like it is not totally damaged but only in parts. This could reflect root problems.

When will i know if it's dead Steve?. And should i leave it in until next spring to see what happens then?

rosie, sorry to get back later..............I hate saying this, but it will be obvious if it is not going to make it. You can scrath a bit of bark off with your thumbnail on limbs you may be worried about. If there is live stuff underneath it, completr with a little green showing by the scratch, you are probably OK and the tree was stressed for some reason or other.
Another thing to do may be to apply some root hormone. I use this gunk called Super Thrive and I swear by it. It is not even that expensive but it can work wonders on root-challenged trees. It's a gentle fertilizer as well as containing root hormones. For about $8-10 bucks, it could last years, it is super concentrated. A couple of drops sometimes is all it recommends, in some water, then pour on the plant.
Good luck, rosiemac. Keep me posted.

Well it's went the distance i'm afraid to say :(
The main bark was starting to go a greyish colour like the others i was snapping off, and they were as dry as sticks.
We dug it up and my neighbour said that the hole wasn't big enough for a start, plus the roots hadn't even stretched out, they were still in a compact ball as if it had just come out it's plant pot. So sounds like you were right Steve about the root damage :(
My neighbour found this one for me on ebay, and it should be here tomorrow

When i googled the tree though i saw it can grown 15-25' :shocker: But my neighbour seems to think that would happen if it were in a hotter a climate?.
What's the best way to plant a tree Steve?. My neighbour said you have to water it well first before planting?. And do i plant it straight away?

God, you're gonna want to strangle me.
I have been ut of town. In the old days, when we were busier, I used to announce this, lol. Now I just leave.
I realize in other words, that I am late again, Rosiemac.............
Planting trees, you always dig a hole twice as big as the root ball. When you plant it, I recommend you half fill it, then add enough water so that you can see it pooling there. That's enough. Then add soil again until you are full. Create a basin and water it, same deal. In other words, you want to drench the plant, and especially in Summer.
I really don't care for too many amendments to the soil, myself. Throw in some very cheap transplant liquid - Vitamin b - and let her be. But, by all means keep it moist while it;s developing.
