Small Portland Job

We have a neat little patio project going on for a delightful lady and her two cats..........(who absolutely hate the sound and vibration of our compactor, lol)....... We are putting pavers over an existing concrete patio with a thin layer of sand or small rock material underneath, then extending it outwards in order to create a larger area. Turns out, as well, she will want a small water feature embedded in the outer edge of the patio, which should be pretty cool.

We are working with a local designer who has dealt with this client for some time, finally getting her to "pull the trigger", lol, and do the dang thing. Kip, the designer has been alerted as to the whereabouts of this site and she is more than welcome to self promote on my dime, lol. IN the end, I bet we have a real winner here. I love the project.

At any rate, here are some before pictures and shots of the first few days of work:

After Christmas and New Year's, things began taking shape. These are progrss shots just as the pavers were completed and the small, bubbling rock water feature were begun in serious. The rock was about 1,000 pounds, lol, and was quite the trial getting it back through 3 foot gates with zero machine access. Somehow (see brute force), we managed.

Here is one of your typical rainy Portland days, pretty much a steady drizzle throughout the days, alllll the days, on this project.:)

And here is pretty much your standard average finished product, once again. Naturally, no project is complete without a deluge of rain and foul weather. Fortunately, in our case, we were delivered exactly that!

We will plant plants, grasses, perennials and such in the Spring, but the client was thrilled with the result.

It's small space gardening/landscaping at it's finest and, once planted, will provide many details and a complex and interesting environment. Her "bubble rock" sounds great, soothing, splashy and sort of throaty, a relaxing and abiding theme.

It looks great! I love how it has very clean lines and at the same time plenty of details to gaze over.

Who would have thought people would still appreciate a water element when they literally live in one :p The place looks soaking wet!

It looks soaking wet, dear, because it IS! LOL. Portland gets downright hot in Summer some years. There tends to be a sort of drought for about 4 months, so the sounds of water salve the mind until the next outbreak of Liquid Sunshine.

I would love something along those lines. What could I expect to pay for something like that? If you don't mind me asking. Just a ballpark price.

Eva, I am thinking the price for this one was in the 12K range. Bear in mind, there was a tear-out and removal of the existing stuff, so that cost money. It was also pretty nasty, access-wise, with a long pathway to the back and narrow gates at two spots. It drives the cost of labor up when we have such poor access. A machine (like a Bobcat) with unfettered access could have removed all the cement and other stuff in about a half day, lol, as opposed to the 3 that it took us.

Typically, the price for installing pavers is in the $10-13 range, per square foot. This one was in the 1,000 sq. ft. range, thus the price.
