Howdy!
I just got my first orchids!
They are:
Max-teuifolia (coconut orchid)
Phalaenopsis
and
Ludisia discolor
My parents have been growing them for years, so I have some kind of idea as to how to take care of them, but I'd love some great sites to continue my education. Anyone have any that they can link me to?
Thanks
Jess

Funny you should say that - there's 4 links at the top of the page all about orchids. Never grown them myself, but I know there are lots of links on the internet. Do you grow in a greenhouse?

That's weird...I can't seem to see the links. I must be blind lol! Totally odd.
Nope, they'll be in my home, in the windows

On my page, the links are posted right smack-dab in the center of the page...in bright RED....can you see them at all?

hummm...no. I don't have anything red on the top of the page at all. It says "Verdant forums", then has a section showing what thread I'm in, and my name/messages total, then the bar that has User CP, etc and then the conversation. Perhaps I should try it in explorer. How odd! Oh! and I'm not colour blind, so no worries there.
I found a new comming shoot on my coconut orchid this morning :)

WOW! Ok...no, I do not have the links with firefox, but I certainly do get them with explorer...how strange (because I do get them with the cat site, which is the same model).
I'll check them out.
Thanks

I love orchids, but I am not great with indoor plants.
The links you see are ads, and they are customized to whatever is on the page you bring up (in Explorer, not Firefox.) Hence the orchid ads in this thread. ;)

:clover_smile_ani: :clover_smile_ani: :clover_smile_ani: good luck with your orchids - keep us posted !
Weird that the ads don't come up for you on Firefox - I get them on my Firefox. I love orchids. I would never dare grow any myself, they look so delicate.

yeah, massive confusion there for a few minutes, but it all worked out ok. So far my orchids haven't done anything, which is a good thing! Tomorrow we do our first watering :)

I got an orchid for my mom, but it died and never produced another stalk. The bottom leaves are still green. Is it dead?? I don't know a thing about orchids.

I know a bit about orchids. They are incredibly reliable once they have a good home with average watering and some sunlight. Taking a stalk off should not hurt their progress but they have their own inner time clocks for blooming, based on their own genetics. I have had a few and they don't much like moving around. Find a spot and keep it there, is my advice.
Another fabulous quality is, no matter how delicate they might look, practically speaking, they are not. The blooms are durable as heck and last a long time. Keep them happy and expect great production for years.
